300.1 - Role of District Administration

The administrators of the Linn-Mar Community School District have been given a great opportunity and responsibility to manage the district, to provide educational leadership, and to implement the educational philosophy of the district. The administrators are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the district. In carrying out these operations as licensed by the State of Iowa, the administrators are guided by board policies, the law, negotiated agreements and contracts, the needs of the students, and the needs of the school district community.

It is the responsibility of the administrators and managers, led by the superintendent, to implement and enforce the policies of the school board, to oversee employees, to monitor educational issues confronting the district, and to inform the board about district operations.

While the school board holds the superintendent ultimately responsible for these duties, the principals are more directly responsible for educational results, for the administration of the school facilities, and for the employees.

The school board and administrators work together to share information and decisions under the team management concept with the superintendent as the chief executive officer. Individuals acting in isolation should not make decisions for the team.
